Public Access Television Within a World Systems Pattern of Understanding
27.02.13 - 17.03.13
Lecture event: 27.02.13 / 7pm - arrive promptly for 7:15 start
This is a special off-site performance at City Business Centre located on the corner of the roundabout at Rotherhithe tunnel, 5 minutes walk from Bermondsey, Rotherhithe and Canada Water tube stations.
There's a thing that's existed in the communications pattern of the country called access television. It's given short shrift, it's thought of as Wayne's World. It's thought of as narcissistic ego's bouncing around because it's the Hyde Park Corner of communication. It's everything --you get the cameras, you get the editing, it's non-commercial. You go to this place, you make a presentation. That's what I do, and I like it.
To mark the end of his residency at the Woodmill, London and New York based artist Daniel Lichtman will present a lecture event entitled Public Access Television Within A World Systems Pattern of Understanding. With a career spanning four decades and a staggering 2,200 interviews, Lichtman agreed to speak on the stipulation that he situate Access Television within a systems-pattern of understanding. The presentation will attempt an essentially new idea in terms of the way in which world-systems are developing following 200,000 years of human evolution.
The lecture will be followed by an informal drinks reception.
Full address: City Business Centre, Unit 30 St.Olav's Court, Lower Road,
Following the lecture a video installation will be on view at Woodmill GP
from Saturday 02.03.13. From then onwards, the exhibition will be open every
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 12pm - 6pm until 17.03.13 or by appointment.
